DEEP SOUTH LED CONTROL
Deep South Ice & Sports Complex · 5200 x 200 LED ribbon · Mac mini
Installed and supported by Kreative D-Signs · kreativehouston.com
====================================================================

WHAT IT DOES
Hockey scoreboard with countdown game clock, shots on goal, penalties
with power-play timer, GOAL animation (scorer, assists, PPG/SHG),
penalty announcements, three stars, player of the game, roster,
sponsor carousel, photos & videos, and live text.
The Mac mini drives the screen; operators control it from a phone or
tablet on the arena Wi-Fi. No internet or account needed.

ONE-TIME SETUP ON A MAC (Kreative D-Signs does this at install)
  1. Install Node.js (LTS) from https://nodejs.org (macOS .pkg).
  2. Copy this folder to the Mac mini (e.g. Documents).
  3. Set a control PIN in config.json, e.g. "pin": "2580"
  4. Double-click "Start Arena LED.command".
     - If macOS blocks it or nothing happens, open Terminal and run once
(change the path to where the folder is):
         xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine ~/Downloads/DeepSouth-LED-Control
         chmod +x ~/Downloads/DeepSouth-LED-Control/*.command
       then double-click again.
     - Or start it by hand in Terminal: cd <folder> then node server.js
     - If macOS asks to allow incoming connections for "node": Allow.
  5. Optional: System Settings > General > Login Items > add
"Start Arena LED.command" so it starts with the Mac.
  6. Turn off sleep on the Mac mini.

WINDOWS INSTEAD OF MAC (one-time setup)
  1. Install Node.js (LTS) for Windows from https://nodejs.org (.msi),
     accept the defaults.
  2. Copy this folder to the PC, e.g. C:\DeepSouth-LED-Control
(right-click the .zip > Extract All first; don't run it from inside the zip).
  3. Set a control PIN in config.json (open with Notepad).
  4. Double-click "Start Arena LED.bat". A black window opens: keep it
open, it IS the app. Chrome opens the Screen page.
     - If Windows SmartScreen says "Windows protected your PC":
       More info > Run anyway.
     - When Windows Defender Firewall asks about "Node.js JavaScript Runtime":
check PRIVATE networks and click Allow. Without this the iPad can't connect.
     - The arena Wi-Fi must be set as a Private network on the PC:
       Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi > (network) > Private network.
  5. LED output: plug HDMI into the VX600, press Windows + P > Extend.
Settings > System > Display > select the LED display > resolution
     3840 x 600 (VX600 HDMI EDID set to Custom 3840 x 600 @ 60).
Drag Chrome onto that display and click "Full screen".
  6. Start with Windows (optional): press Windows + R, type shell:startup ,
Enter, and put a shortcut to "Start Arena LED.bat" in that folder.
  7. Power: Settings > System > Power > Screen and sleep > Never.
If the iPad can't connect, check step 4 (firewall, Private network) first.

GAME NIGHT
  1. Start the app (or it starts on login). Chrome opens the Screen page.
  2. Drag the Chrome window onto the LED display and click "Full screen".
  3. On the phone/tablet (arena Wi-Fi) open the Control address shown
in the Terminal window, e.g. http://192.168.1.25:3000/#control
Enter the PIN once. Add it to the Home Screen.
  4. Before puck drop: Control > "New game" button, set team names,
short names (3 letters), colors and rosters (one per line: "9 Garcia").

DURING THE GAME (iPad)
The top bar never scrolls away: GOAL buttons, score, clock Start/Stop,
  what's on screen, and UNDO.
Goal .......... tap GOAL. It goes on screen right away. A panel opens:
tap the scorer, assist 1, assist 2 (or Skip). Fix names
later by tapping the goal in the Game log.
A second tap within 3 s is ignored (no double goals).
Undo .......... the button always says what it will undo
("Undo: Goal HOU"). Tap again to go further back.
The clock is never rolled back.
Clock ......... Start/Stop. Game tab: period buttons, "Set time left"
(e.g. 12:34) to match the official clock.
Shots ......... Game tab: +1 shot (a goal adds a shot automatically).
  Penalties ..... team > player tile > penalty > infraction > Start.
Timers run with the game clock; scoreboard shows PP.
End a penalty early by holding its End button.
Lineup intro .. mark Starters in Setup > Players (with photos).
Lineup intro tab: pick the order, Start, then tap
"Next player" as the PA announcer calls each name
(or turn on Auto-advance). Mac keyboard: N.
Announce ...... Three stars, Player of the game, Repeat last goal,
Roster scroll, Custom message (attendance, promos).
Risky buttons . "Remove a goal" and "New game" must be held down,
so a stray tap can't change the score.

HYPE ANIMATIONS (Hype tab)
  Make some noise · Let's go [team] · De-fense · Power play · Penalty kill ·
Great save · Hat trick · Fireworks · Final score · Puck drop countdown.
Optional custom text and length. "Stop animation" cuts it.
Goal animation style (Setup): team stripes, goal light (red siren),
fireworks, or random. A hat trick plays automatically on a player's
3rd goal once the scorer is saved.

UPDATES
Kreative D-Signs publishes updates remotely. The app checks every 6 hours
(Setup > App & updates > "Check for updates" to check now). New designs
reach the LED screen only when you tap "Reload the LED screen". If the app
itself needs a restart, it waits until the game clock is stopped.
Your teams, players, photos, logos and videos are never touched.

PHONE / iPAD WON'T CONNECT?
  - Same Wi-Fi as the Mac mini, and use http:// (not https).
  - iPhone: Settings > Cellular > turn OFF "Wi-Fi Assist" (at the bottom).
Otherwise the phone may use cellular data and can't reach the Mac mini.
  - Settings > Wi-Fi > (network) > (i): turn OFF "Limit IP Address Tracking".
  - Best: a Wi-Fi-only iPad as the control (it has no cellular to switch to).
  - Guest Wi-Fi networks often block devices from seeing each other.

TEAM LOGOS & SCOREBOARD POSITION (Setup tab)
Upload each team's crest (PNG with transparent background works best).
It shows on the scoreboard, the Score + sponsors bug, the lineup intro
and the iPad GOAL buttons. "Show team logos" turns them on or off.
"Scoreboard position" puts the score bug on the left, center or right
of the ribbon when "Score + sponsors" is on air.

PLAYER PHOTOS
Setup > Players: tap the photo square next to a player and pick a
headshot (JPG/PNG; cropped to 4:5 automatically).
Paste a whole roster at once: "9 Garcia C" one per line.

KEYBOARD ON THE MAC (Screen page)
  G home goal · H away goal · Space start/stop clock · Z undo · N next lineup player
  1 Sponsors · 2 Scoreboard · 3 Score + sponsors · 4 Photos & videos
  5 Text · B Blackout · Left/Right previous/next photo or video

SCOREBOARD CONSOLE (System tab > Scoreboard console)
  Daktronics All Sport 5000: console port J6 (DB25 "I/O") > DB25-to-DB9
  NULL-MODEM cable > USB-serial adapter (FTDI chip) > Mac mini / PC.
Choose "Daktronics All Sport 5000 · USB-serial adapter", tap
"Find serial ports", pick the adapter, 19200, Save connection.
The live line shows what the console sends (clock, score, period, shots,
penalties). Then the official clock, score, shots, period and penalty
clocks come from the console, and a GOAL animation plays by itself when
the console score goes up (the iPad asks for scorer and assists).
Use "Simulator" to practice without a console.
A serial-to-Ethernet bridge works too: choose the network option and
  type its IP and port.

SCREEN SETTINGS (System tab > Screen)
Venue name, LED resolution, cabinets across/down, module size, side
panel width and where the image sits on the computer's screen.
Test patterns (cabinet numbers, module grid, color bars, gradient, white)
check cabinet order, rotation and dead modules.

LICENSE (System tab > License)
Kreative D-Signs sends a license for this computer. Paste it and tap
Install license. Without a license the app still works but shows
"UNLICENSED" in a corner of the LED screen.

LED CONTROLLER SETTINGS (do not change)

  Port 2 = cabinets 8-13, cabinet rotation 270°, screen 5200 x 200.
  HDMI input EDID: Custom 3840 x 600 @ 60, Input Crop ON
